Gone are the days of pints and stew, sitting in a tour bus and ticking off the must see sights all at a frantic pace. Yes all the sights are still there the pints are just as good and the traditional music a must at night time. But in the last couple of years there has being a realisation that the Burren is the best natural playground in Ireland if not Europe offering the best quality experiences and guided by some of the top professional and eco conscious guides and experts. And the best part is it is virtually undiscovered.
Imagine hiking a 14km trail hugging the coastline along the Cliffs of Moher starting in Doolin and passing the odd person on your way. Or be the first to go bouldering on one of the many boulders the Wild Atlantic throws up in the winter storms onto the ever changing Burren coastline, or climb one of the many cliff faces this natural cregg has to offer.
Go Sea Kayak the inlets around Ballyvaughan, Surf the waves in Lahinch and Fanore Beach. Go deep into one of the many caves and beware hobbit fans of Poll na gColm.
Hiking you are spoilt for choice with weeks upon weeks of Burren Way trails discovering ancient treasure such as the high crosses in Kilfenora, or take a leisurely cycle on one of the Doolin Cycle hub, or get more active with mountain biking the Green roads, or take up the Stephen Roche Atlantic Challenge, or run the Cliffs of Moher 5 miler, or…..
But beware all these activities in a virtually undiscovered landscape and the pure clean crisp Atlantic air builds an appetite that is hard to quench. You are warned, you may never leave….
