Trees provide not only physical support to human beings and their fellow creatures, birds, insects and fungi etc but also spiritual sustenance for many. Trees have inspired poets through the ages. People feel more grounded and clear-headed when taking a walk in a forest or wood. Healers and mystics have also claimed that trees provide an integral part of the healing powers of nature. Last year the UNESCO Artist for Peace Marko Pogacnik visited. I helped him form a well attended workshop in the Burren. He acknowledged some beautiful trees growing at the Dysart O’Dea ecclesiastical site. He maintained that they were significant within the sacred landscape there.
On my own workshops, festive walks and slow tours of the Burren I teach people ways to connect deeper with the trees, and people find a great sense of peace in doing so. So often in our busy lives we are disconnected with nature and it benefits us to reconnect. Trees provide an excellent medium with which to do this.
Since 1998 I have had a keen interest in the trees commonly known as the Celtic Trees. My first book was about the Celtic Tree Calendar in 1999 and earlier this year I revisited the topic to include a series of meditations I created for the trees.
My latest book is called Reconnect with Celtic Trees and has been illustrated by artist Nicola Moss, a medalist and seer
