On the edge of the beautiful Burren in Co. Clare, lies INStone (Irish Natural Stone) – a centre of excellence in the conservation of the material use of stone, protecting our world for future generations through the preservation of Cultural, Architectural, and Archaeological Heritage.

INStone Conservation promotes the protection of our built heritage through the guiding principles of best conservation practice. INStone is a specialist building consultancy, which has been privileged to work on many prestigious projects, providing incredible experience in the repair and restoration of historic stone structures throughout Ireland, and overseas in both the UK and US.

Tours of our facilities can be booked in advance, and people will be guided through the history of our stone built landscape, and see modern stone masons keeping our ancient traditions alive!

INStone Studio is an established stone carving studio for professional and budding stone sculptors, who are equipped with the tools necessary to create small and large works of art in a creative environment. The studio has a dedicated exhibition space and centre, which provides an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work, whilst INStone’s extensive facility provides incredible space for resident sculptors to push stone to its limit and realise their own designs on a much greater scale. Providing a gallery space for these local artists and craftspeople is key to ensuring a sustainable arts environment in a rural landscape and provides an opportunity to garner an appreciation for their skills from a wider audience.

Burren INStone Academy believes that education is key in terms of the preservation of our built heritage and the conservation of stone within creative offerings. At its core, INStone wishes to share its extensive knowledge to the next generation. With this INStone offer a variety of short- and medium-term courses within the Burren which focus on:

These courses are available to book online, and will give each person invaluable one-on-one time with leading stone conservators and sculptors – instilling a passion to preserve our past, in the present, for the future.
