Burren National Park
Website Burren National Park
The Burren National Park, managed by the National Parks & Wildlife Service, is
famed for its unique geology and botanical diversity. Established in 1991 as Ireland’s
fifth National Park, it is situated on the south-eastern edge of the Burren region and
has a present area of approx. 2,000 hectares with way-marked walking trails to be
enjoyed. Within the National Park, all of the main habitats typical of the Burren
landscape are to be found, including limestone pavement, hazel scrub, lakes,
turloughs, springs, fens and orchid-rich grassland.
Our National Park Guide staff provide free guided walks and environmental
education services and are based in the Information Point in Corofin village where
you can get more information before visiting the National Park. The Information Point
houses a small informative exhibition on the geology, nature and management of the
park as well as providing toilet facilities. A free shuttle bus service runs from here to
the trailhead in the park every half hour, 7 days a week, from the beginning of May to
the end of August.
Our team of Rangers and General Operatives are responsible for environmental
conservation, species and habitat monitoring and maintenance work in the National
Park areas.
