Immerse yourself in the Salmon Experience and follow in the footsteps of royalty!
Call into the Burren Smokehouse Tasting Room located in Lisdoonvarna just off the Wild Atlantic Way and a short drive from the Cliffs of Moher. Sample the silky texture of the Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon. Discover the mystery of salmon smoking and the secret of how smoked salmon is handcrafted by watching a short video in English, French, German, Italian, Swedish and Spanish.
Enjoy mosaics that are telling the story of the “Salmon of Knowledge”. Marvel at the nostalgic yet contemporary atmosphere in their Tasting Room and smell the oak smoke as soon as you come through the door. Feel the occasional rumble of the smoking facilities under your feet as you explore the retired kiln and smokebox that are there for you to explore.
In May 2019, the honour of a Swedish Royal visit was bestowed upon the Curtin family. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden came to the Burren Smokehouse to learn about artisan food production in the Burren, and to taste their Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon.
There is more to explore next door. In the new “Taste the Atlantic – The Salmon Experience” you can follow the iconic salmon through history. Watch the story of the Salmon of Knowledge unfold before your eyes, and unlock so much knowledge through the different interactive displays. Reel in the years and follow authentic news stories on salmon through the decades, and solve jigsaw and quiz questions.
And if you need a rest and a bite to eat after all these experiences, there is the gastro pub, the Roadside Tavern with the Burren Brewery (making craft beers counted among the best in Ireland by the Lonely Planet Global Beer Guide!) a bit further down the road, and the Burren Storehouse with its offering of pizzas and more.
You can also book by phone and email master classes, as well as private guided tours and presentations.
